Summer! What a joke!. We’ve had gale force winds and torrential rain ALL day today. It’s safe to say that the weather has been thoroughly miserable. It’s even worse when you’re in a tent AND you have to keep running to the loo every 40 minutes or so.
A couple of times today I have feared for the tent with the strong winds gusting and really stressing the poles and guy ropes. I've been thinking that yes, chalets and lodges are more expensive but you get solid walls, you're own toilet, you don't have to build it when you arrive. It sounds very tempting, or maybe I've just got a downer on camping at the moment.
Anyway, weather aside, we went down into Woolacoombe today and I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that even though the weather was crappy the sea was full of people on body boards and surf boards, it really is a surfer town with shops everywhere all selling the same sorts of things.
The beach is lovely and long and sandy and I'm sure with no horizontal rain it would be lovely!
I've managed to get all my water down me today which I failed dismally to do yesterday. Yesterday I'd only had .75 litres by about 3pm (I've usually had 2.5-3l by then!) So knowing that I have to drink 4.5l a day I "guzzled" about 2 litres within an hour and felt thoroughly sick afterward and really rough.
So the weather still looks bad for the next 5 days but hopefully not as bad as today. There's lots to do in Devon so we just have to grin and bear it.
