No, I’m not giving up blogging, I’m starting a new weight loss program today to finally start doing something positive about my weight. I’m starting LighterLife
I was undecided whether to blog about this or not as I’ve met some very opinionated people and to be honest most of them are negative and in the vain “you’ll put it all back on” or “I know x number of people that have tried and they’re all heavier than when they started.
I like to make up my own mind and have read a massive amount of information over the last 3-4 weeks and think this is the right program for me. I believe I’m going into this with a realistic attitude, if I don’t follow the program then I will not succeed in my goals. It’s as simple as that. So I’m going to blog about it but I’m not going to discuss it face to face with anyone with the exception of a supportive group of close friends and family.
So what is LighterLife? It’s a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) that is medically approved and monitored and only for people with at least 3 stones to lose, ie they have a BMI of 29 or higher. It consists of eating 4 meal packs per day totaling just over 500 calories and upping water intake to usually at least 4 litres a day. Other things allowed are black tea and coffee, salt, pepper, Tabasco sauce.
Along with the actual diet is a weekly counseling session with a CBT counselor to help understand your relationship with food. The diet is split into 3 sections.
Section 1: Foundation (14 weeks for women and 8 weeks for men). Complete abstinence from food, apart from the food packs and water and the aim is to lose at least 3 stones.
Section 2: Development. Continue on the program until you get to your desired healthy weight.
Section 3: Route to Management. 12 weeks of slowly being introduced to different food types. Learn to understand the body's signals about food and make sure you don’t fall back into old habits.
These are my stats from my first weigh in (please remember I am 6’ 8” tall! – not that that’s an excuse):
Weight (fully clothed): 23st 8lbs (150kg)
I weighed myself this morning before getting dressed and the scales read 23st 4.5lbs (3.5lbs of clothing sounds realistic). I’ll probably report my home weights while blogging.
So here I am in my lunch break and have just finished my second shake of the day, I’ve drunk 2 1/4 litres of water so far and I have a dull rumble in my tummy. I’m going to face a hard few days while my body starts detoxing and then moving into fat burning mode when the hunger should hopefully diminish. Katie took the obligatory start diet photo’s this morning which I will post over the weekend.
There’s a long road ahead, you’re welcome to join me, support me and ask questions. Here goes…
