Day 4 - Up and along the northern coast of Scotland

260 miles covered today which makes our total mileage now 936 miles. The weather started misty and chilly but got brighter and warmer the further we went. The owner at the B&B we're at now said they haven't had weather this good for 18 months.

For some reason I was warned not to take the A9 north past Wick to John O'Groats as it got "boring". Boy was I glad I didn't listen. It was a fantastic road. I think I'm running out of superlatives to describe the Scottish scenery though. The previous post is the view we have from our bedroom windows at the B&B over looking Ben Tongue.

I have to agree that John O'Groats is a bit of a disappointment and it seems it's only purpose is to separate the tourist from their hard earned money. It costs £17 to have your picture taken at "the" signpost!

We're now seeing a marked change in the scenery too with the pine forests giving way to open peat planes with lots more hills and mountains.

The best part of the day? The fact we had the roads to ourselves most of the time.
