Incidents, accidents & emergencies

Bit of a strange day yesterday. First off we were witness to a spooked shire horse at a local vintage vehicle rally. The horse had been giving carriage rides all day but something spooked it on this occasion causing it to crash though a bric-a-brac stall badly injuring someone. We were stood right in the path of the horse and I was ready to grab the kids and run had they not stopped it.

The Devon air ambulance was called for the injured person. The police and fire brigade were also called.

Later in the afternoon, Rhian had a nasty crash on her scooter. She was going round the camp site when she lost control at speed and did 3 complete rolls across the road. She grazed her lip, thigh and foot. I put the first aid kit to good use while I patched her up.

Finally, to round off the day, I became concerned that Kira had not been answering my call on the walkie talkie we gave her when it was time for her to come back to the tent from the playground. Thinking she was too busy playing to hear me I went over there ready to tell her off only to find her well and truly wedged in a small tree she had been climbing. She was desperately trying to reach the radio that was in a leg pocket on her trousers.

It took 2 of us to untangle her but she was fine. She had been there for about 10 minutes and no one offered to help and she was too shy to ask. That annoyed me because there were lots of adults and kids around.

Anyway hopefully there will be less incidents today. The weather's brightened up after some rain on Saturday and some cloud yesterday. Were going to put the boat onto the River Dart at Dartmouth and go up to Totnes and back.
