Trying to do too much
I'm suffering with too much to do at the moment, both at work and at home. This invariably ends up with me trying to do everything at once and getting nothing finished.
At work, I'm trying to improve our monitoring and alerting. We use Servers Alive for monitoring which is very flexible. I just need to make sure all events are monitored. We currently have about 80 checks and we're still missing lots. I then need to write some nice we templates to put up on our monitoring screens. I've just got MRTG running on most of our servers and gateways which is nice. Graphs always go down well.
At home, my server is running out of steam. Which isn't surprising considering it's a PIII with 300MB of RAM running Win2003 Server, WWW, FTP, DAB Radio, SSH, SlimServer and Mail. I actually host Katies website and mail on this so it is important that I keep it running with plenty of puff. I've decided to re-use my old motherboard and RAM instead of selling them. This will work out cheaper in the long run than paying for hosting charges. I'm going to use the onboard RAID controller with 2 60GB drives in RAID 0 to see if that improves the performance.
